Sydney’s Hyde Park

Sydney’s Hyde Park comes alive on 26 January with activities, entertainment, wine, food, fun and relaxation. At no other time does Hyde Park attract so many participants throughout the day, all wanting to share in the spirit with family and friends ...the following are the major activities occuring at Hyde Park on 26th January 2011 from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

The Big Telly

The giant digital screen will play favourite TV moments from the past, showcase our Australia Day highlights and feature fun interactive promotions for the crowd. Cooking demonstrations on the hour and sampling of Hereford Prime beef. Watch the deft hand of chefs from leading restaurants as they let you in on some of their trade secrets in the kitchen during live cooking demonstrations, featuring Hereford Prime beef.

The Wine Garden

Soak up the atmosphere of Hyde Park and the Wine Garden with a sample from Little Creatures Premium Beer or a glass of Petaluma Wines

Kids Playground

Kids will be able to challenge themselves on the Tsunami Wave Slide. A workshop marquee will host Animalates (Pilates for kids) and Questacon science workshops.

Have A Go Sport

Have A Go Sport is an Interactive sport experience for kids that want to test their sporting skills.

AFL NSW & Netball NSW have come together to run fun, interactive netball and football based activities with the kids. Well known players from the AFL NSW and Australian Netball Diamonds will put kids through their paces, giving tips on how to improve skills and sign autographs.

The world’s safest and greatest Aussie Trampoline – Springfree™ Trampoline will be showcasing five of their best tramps in the Have a Go Sport area. For kids, young and old, you’ll have a blast testing your jumping prowess and also have the chance to meet and watch one of Australia’s best gymnasts perform spectacular routines throughout the day.

ABC in the Park

The ABC exhibition trailer offers fantastic fun for all the family for FREE! Budding radio broadcasters and TV stars can perform in a mini ABC TV and ABC Radio studio. Participants can present the news, co-host Studio 3, sing along to the latest ABC kids songs, interview your favourite ABC personality, or even show your latest invention on the New Inventors. You get to take home your free recording on CD and there will be plenty of ABC giveaways.

702 ABC Sydney - Join 702 ABC Sydney for a day of live radio, music and Australia Day merriment. Ian MACCA McNamara will be broadcasting LIVE from 9:00am-noon, followed by late afternoon entertainment from 702 ABC Sydney presenters Richard Glover, Simon Marnie and Adam Spencer.

Lord Mayor’s Citizenship Ceremony (2.00pm to 3.00pm)

The Lord Mayor’s Citizenship Ceremony, hosted by Clover Moore, will once again feature the stories of new citizens and some special surprises.

Citizenship is more than just a ceremony and forms an important part of Australia Day celebrations. Welcome new citizens to our country at the Lord Mayor's Citizenship Ceremony presented by the City of Sydney and hear their life journeys.
