THIRTEEN Whitsunday tourism operators went to Sydney this week to drum up international business at the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) travel trade show. Representatives from Cruise Whitsundays, Fantasea, Coral Sea Resort, Daydream, Hayman and Hamilton islands and Tourism Whitsundays were just some of the local operators that showcased the region in the week-long event. Tourism and Small Business Minister Jan Jarratt said the 140 strong Queensland contingent would be the dominant force at ATE this year. She said it was the perfect opportunity for the industry to show key buyers that Queensland was one of the best places in the world to holiday. “ATE provides an excellent chance for tourism operators to showcase their products, meet with overseas contacts and negotiate deals with airlines, tourism wholesalers and retailers from around the world,” she said. “This is a unique opportunity for Queensland tourism operators to increase their share of the inbound travel market by dealing directly with the world's tourism movers and shakers all at the one time in the one place. “With more than 222,000 Queenslanders owing their living to tourism, the industry is a key economic driver for the State.”
