The Cure Exclusive Performance at Vivid Sydney

One of the world’s most influential bands The Cure will be performing exclusively in our city as part of the Vivid Sydney festival of light, music and ideas, Minister for Major Events George Souris said today. Mr Souris described having The Cure perform on the Sydney Opera House stage as a coup for both Sydney and the festival.

“The Cure will perform their first three albums live in a concert experience never seen in Australia before on 31 May and 1 June in the Concert Hall,” Mr Souris said.

“I’d like to congratulate Sydney Opera House and the curator of Vivid LIVE Stephen Pavlovic on securing this exclusive performance for our global city.

“Being able to bring the world’s most influential musicians to Sydney lies at the core of the Vivid Sydney concept.

“With The Cure performing exclusively as part of Vivid Sydney, the eyes of the world will certainly be on this city.

“There is no doubt interstate and overseas music fans will head to Sydney to see this show.

“The Cure puts the icing on the cake for this year’s music program which already features eight Australian premieres with almost every artist exclusive to Sydney,” he said.

Now in its third year, Vivid has become Sydney’s major festival in winter, lighting up the city each night from 6pm with free and ticketed events at Sydney Opera House, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Circular Quay and The Rocks. Minister Souris said light is central to Vivid Sydney and once again the festival centrepiece will be the lighting of the iconic Sydney Opera House sails by French digital projection artists Superbien.

“The Rocks and Circular Quay will be transformed with over 40 light installations including 24 immersive and interactive low energy light sculptures, a fire spectacular at Campbell’s Cove, and illuminated skyscrapers and buildings,” Mr Souris said.

“A major celebration of the creative industries, the festival also includes free public talks, debates and forums with leading creative thinkers at Vivid Creative Sydney.

“I strongly encourage Sydneysiders and visitors to come to Vivid Sydney and see the city transformed after dark,” he said.
