Sydney is World's no. 2 city - Survey

Sydney has been voted the top travel destination in the South Pacific, and the second top spot in the world.

Sydney has been voted the top travel destination in the South Pacific and the second top spot in the world after Cape Town in South Africa.

That's according to users of the TripAdvisor website and Facebook app in its 2011 Travellers' Choice Destination survey.

TripAdvisor's Emma O'Boyle says tourism's vital to the Australian economy so it's good to see Sydney outshining hotspots like Paris, New York and London.

Queenstown in New Zealand was second favourite in the South Pacific, followed by Melbourne, Perth and Byron Bay.
