How Visitors Find Their Way Around Sydney (Study Findings!)

Destination NSW and the University of Technology, Sydney have conducted new research on visitor wayfinding in Sydney. Among the findings were that only 20% of visitors used a GPS or app to find their way around Sydney. More than half encountered problems because of high international roaming charges and unreliable guidance amongst tall buildings.

A summary of the research is available on the Corporate website. (http://corporate.tourism.nsw.gov.au/Sites/SiteID6/objLib40/Visitor-Wayfinding-in-Sydney_ResearchFS.pdf )

Other findings included:

Most visitors used landmarks for orientation. The Opera House, Sydney Tower and the Harbour Bridge were the most common, followed by the Queen Victoria Building, Hyde Park and the Art Gallery.

George Street is the main route used to access the key tourist areas of Sydney city.
Walking was the most preferred method of getting around.
