Sydney to Host Australian Athletics Champs

The Australian athletics championships will return to Sydney next year for the first time since 2007.

NSW sports minister Graham Annesley announced on Friday Sydney Olympic Park would host several athletics events in the coming years.

These included next year's national titles, three of the next four Australian junior championships and the next three Sydney Track Classics.

The return of national titles to Sydney comes despite last year's completion of Melbourne's purpose-built Lakeside Stadium, which will host next month's Olympic selection trials.

Sydney hosted nationals from 2004 to 2007 before they were held in Brisbane in 2008 and 2009 and Melbourne last year.

Annesley described securing the athletics events as "an outstanding major events victory for Sydney and NSW".
