Sydney Festival Announces 2013 Line-up

From 5-27 January, the Sydney Festival returns to the Harbour City with another stellar line-up. In 2013, there’ll be 18 free events and almost 100 events overall during the Festival, with more than 30 venues hosting the action. There’ll be two late-night venues, too: The Festival Garden in Hyde Park, which locals know well, plus a new addition, Paradiso at Town Hall, taking over from the Hyde Park Barracks bar as the hub of dancing and live music. The Paradiso Bar terrace opens at 5:30pm for drinks, while ticketed shows will take place in the main hall, with free entry after 11:30pm.

Heading the Paradiso line-up is none other than electronic savant Nicolas Jaar, who is bringing his live show to Australia for the first time. Sydney Festival favourite Future Classic is back for 2013 with Norwegian disco adventurer Lindstrom headlining. Then there’s a Picnic Night with Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani and Daniel Wang in charge of the dancefloor.

The Festival Garden In Hyde Park is set to feature a mix of music and performance under the stars and inside The Famous Spiegeltent. Then there’s the Late In The Garden programme, which includes an intimate performance from Darkside, Nicolas Jaar’s collaboration with his band’s guitarist Dave Harrington. Also awesome-sounding is Kraftwerk’s Computer World, performed by Nite Jewel & Peanut Butter Wolf – the name says it all.

The main music line-up includes the 2001: A Space Odyssey score performed by the Sydney Symphony at the Opera House, a David Byrne and St. Vincent double-bill, plus plenty more. Check out some of the inthemix highlights below, and the full program over at the Sydney Festival website.
