Golden Oldies Rugby Festival 2010

Sydney has won the bid to host the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival in September 2010. This event is expected to attract 6,000 participants over seven days. The NSW Government estimates this event will bring $25 million to the local economy.

This lead first came to the SCVB in August 2006 from the NSW Major Events Unit. After an initial meeting, the SCVB compiled a bid document and assisted with a presentation to the board members at the last Golden Oldies Rugby Festival in Wellington. The SCVB also held room blocks across Sydney in over 50 hotels.

Sydney won based on the enthusiasm and professionalism demonstrated by the Australian Rugby Golden Oldies, the NSW Government and the SCVB.

Pan Pacific Travel, appointed by Air New Zealand, will handle the accommodation component.

The Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival will be held at Sydney’s Centennial Parklands from September 26 to October 3, 2010
