Youth Week Kicks Off in Sydney

National Youth Week has kicked off in Sydney with young people gathering for a free concert by the harbour.

Thousands turned up to watch artists including Justice Crew perform in Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney for the launch of the week on Saturday, organisers said.

Former young Australian of the year and National Youth Week ambassador Jessica Watson, 18, said the week is an opportunity for young people to get together and celebrate their youth.
"With thousands of events taking place across Australia, there's bound to be one near you," the around-the-world sailor said.

The week, which runs from April 13 to 22, aims to recognise contributions made by young people and tries to voice concerns or issues affecting them.

This year's theme is imagine, create, inspire.
