Australia's Oldest Fulltime Firefighter Bill King Ready to Row in World Firefighter Games

AUSTRALIA'S oldest fulltime firefighter will show the younger generation how it's done at the Sydney World Firefighters Games.

Bill King, 72, from Mosman Fire Station has been training to compete in the indoor rowing event against firemen of all ages - and he has his eye on gold.

"I've been competing in indoor rowing for more than 10 years and train every day, at work or at the gym," he said.

Maintaining physical health is an important part of being a firefighter and the reason he is still doing extraordinary things after 52 years.

The grandfather of five loves his job and believes working alongside the younger generation keeps him young at heart.

"I enjoy the camaraderie and still love the challenge of the job. I can't pull the trigger on retirement just yet," he said.

His crew, some of them half his age, said "Kingy" had no trouble keeping up.
"It's almost the other way around," Daryn Hyde said. "He's always go, go, go. He's an inspiration to us."
